Class 5

Hello!  Welcome to the web page of Class 5.  We are a class of 28 Year 3 children. Our teacher is called Miss Topsey. Mrs Adams and Miss May support us in the classroom too. Our classroom is bright and colourful. We hope to have lots of different and interesting displays in our classroom over the next few months.

We have already been very busy.

During the first week of term we spent time exploring dinosaurs after reading 'Stomp, chomp, bug roars, here comes the dinosaurs' by Nick Sharratt. We created dinosaurs using the shape of our handprints.

We also designed our own dinosaurs and wrote palaeontogist reports about our discoveries.

After studying some fossils very closely and recording what they looked like with observational drawings, we used plasticine and plaster to create our own fossils.

During the week we even had a visit from a dinosaur!

Our main topic for the term is 'The Great Fire of London'. We have been very interested in this period of history and have been exploring the life of Samuel Pepys who wrote a diary all about his life in 1666.  We have started to create a display in our classroom about the fire.  We have written our own diary extracts

and created some super art work too!  We are all really enjoying this history project and we know lots of facts about this time in history.

In Literacy we have been exploring instructions.  We had to think carefully about the different features of instructions and have tried to include equipment lists and numbered sentences with bossy verbs!  We have written poems about Autumn.  We have created word and idea banks to help us.  Some of us have gone on an Autumn walk and collected Autumn leaves and taken photos using the digital camera.  These are on display in the classroom.

We have also written stories based on the famous story 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes.  It is all about losing a favourite toy.  Our favourite soft toys were invited to school for a teddy bears picnic and a chance to have their picture taken with us!

We started to go swimming this term and we are really enjoying it.  We go to Penzance Leisure Centre on the school's minibuses, so as well as the swimming, the trip is very exciting!  We all hope to be able to swim without armbands by Easter and some of us are working on our swimming techniques.  Wish us luck!

On Monday afternoon's we are learning how to cook.  So far we have made jelly , jam tarts and gorgeous muffins.  Maybe we will all grow up to be the Jamie Oliver's of the future!  We have really enjoyed eating the things we have made!

We hope you enjoyed reading our class page and hope that you will visit us again next term to find out about all the wonderful things we have been up to! J

Goodbye for now!

Class 5 and Miss Topsey.
